Organisation Background
The Afghanistan & Central Asian Association (ACAA) is a small but successful charity set up in 2001 to promote British values and integration among the refugee community from Afghanistan and Central Asia in particular Afghan women to enable active participation in mainstream society. Our services include ESOL and citizenship classes, supplementary school classes, employment training sessions, legal services, drop-in advice sessions and mentoring.
The Role
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the delivery of supplementary classes, every Saturday in Deptford, south east London. The project aims to disadvantaged Afghan children and unaccompanied minors by providing classes focusing on English, Maths and Science as the core subjects along with some mother tongue sessions in Dari or Pashto. Career advice will also be available for older children, as well as activities during school holidays. The outreach worker will be a point of contact between the school and ACAA, you will distribute information about the sessions and make referrals for the classes. We will provide you with the training and support you need to do this role.
Your duties would include:
· identifying contacts within schools
· Liaising between the schools and ACAA
· Referring students
· Keeping up to date records of interactions with students and organisations
· Report writing
Knowledge of Pashto, Farsi or Arabic would be an advantage.
Volunteers must have a DBS which can be arranged through our company given time.
NB Length of project 24- 48 weeks
